How do you disable pizzicato?
I'm having a curious problem: I used pizzicato in a certain section, and now those staves seem to be "stuck" in pizzicato mode. Everything after the pizzicato section is still playing pizzicato on those staves, and I can't figure out how to turn it off. No doubt there is some simple fix fo...

My Second Original Composition
Following on my recent series of imitations of famous film composers, I've completed my second original Notion composition, which I call "Something Happened on the Way to Escape." I realize this is not a terribly interactive composing forum, but I do welcome comments about my work. I consi...

Re: Waltz in Black
It's a lovely waltz, but not so much a "take your partner for a spin" type waltz.
Typically, that type of waltz is more vivacious, more upbeat.
This is slower, more somber, but quite lovely.
How did you do it? Just with Notion, or did you use other software as well?

Star Wars - "Throne Room" Music
Continuing to practice composing by ear, I tackled John Williams' magnificent "Throne Room" music from the final scene of Star Wars . Very challenging was figuring out the key-transition notes at the end of the second fanfare, and the ascending violins and violas at the beginning. But my c...

Closing Credits Music - Broadcast News
For my second autodidactic exercise in film scoring, I've replicated (by ear) a lovely theme by the legendary composer Bill Conti, from one of my favorite films, 1987's *Broadcast News*. In this exercise I did the following for the first time: * composed a drum part (very tricky beat, I might add......

Re: Elgar Elegy Op. 58 Re-recorded and Remastered
This was the Vivaldi piece I meant:
https://soundcloud.com/philippe-baylac/ ... o-stagioni
I thought it was yours because it started playing automatically as I was listening to your compositions.

Re: Elgar Elegy Op. 58 Re-recorded and Remastered
In response to Saintdufus' inquiry to my previous post, here's a new version of this piece. This is after about two months or so of work with my large VE string orchestra ensemble. There are 8 Vln I, 8 Vln II, 6 Vla, 6 Vc, and a Bass section here, all with individual samples using different instrum...

Re: VSL Dimension Strings Test 2 - Elgar Elegy
Beautiful! How did you get the strings to sound that way? So lush and real...did you do anything special? Thanks! It still feels a long way from real in my ears, but I've been working hard on strings. They're Vienna Symphonic Library (VSL) Dimension Strings, with careful placement and reverb and ma...
