Re: John Williams, "March of the Villains"
Michael, I'm surprised to learn you've had no formal music training. Having explored your website with interest, I took it for granted you had. I'm glad to know I was wrong, as I admire your work and am heartened to hear you are self-taught. Thank you for your kind words. When you work so hard on so...

Love Theme
This is my first effort at a love theme. I couldn't resist a bit of Wagnerian bombast, and the whole piece has sort of an old-fashioned feel to it, stylistically speaking. I love the grand old romantic style, the sweeping drama and flourish of old-school love themes. My recent study of the Wagner-in...

Re: Arpeggios: starting too early
So that's what those long "smudges" are.
I accidentally activated those at one point, and couldn't figure out how to turn them off.
Thanks for the tip gentlemen.

Re: John Williams, "March of the Villains"
Hi Michael, thanks for your comment. :) "Masochism" is an interesting word--of course you're being facetious, but there's also a grain of truth in it: it's very labor-intensive, painstaking work to go through a complex piece like this and extract each individual note. But it's a labor of l...

John Williams, "March of the Villains"
"The March of the Villains" was the theme John Williams composed as the leitmotif for Lex Luthor and his bumbling henchman Otis in the 1978 film Superman . I naively thought this composition would be relatively easy to figure out, failing to take into account the legions of 32nd-note runs ...

Re: How do you do drum rolls/flams?
SnareExample.wav I will have to beg to differe, Meister Thorrild. I believe the markup works just fine, but I enter mine from the palette as opposed to the keyboard shortcuts... I've included a screen shot and audio example: SnareExample.png SnareExample.wav Is it possible your entry method is brea...

Re: How do you do drum rolls/flams?
A couple of questions about composing drums: 1. How do you do a snare or cymbal roll? Select the note(s) you want to roll and press the slash key [/] 3 times. 2. How do you do a snare flam? I think the grace note is your only option so far. You are right that it is limited, because it always plays ...

Arpeggios: starting too early
Is there a way to make arpeggios start a fraction of a beat later?
Arpeggios that should fall on the first beat of a given measure are actually starting on the last beat of the previous measure. Is there a way to tighten this up?
Thanks.

How do you do drum rolls/flams?
A couple of questions about composing drums: 1. How do you do a snare or cymbal roll? I've managed to simulate a halfway-decent snare roll using trill, but I'm wondering if there's a more realistic-sounding method. (Timpani rolls sound great using the trill.) As for a cymbal roll, I have not yet fig...
