Re: Former Symphony Pro user looking for new notation app

I have Notion for iPad. I don't like it, because of the poor (for me) input paradigm. I have also posted here about wanting stylus-to-staff input, and I have spoken to tech support, as well. I used SymphonyPro for that reason, until they vanished. I actually purchased both SP and Notion at the same ...

Re: Former Symphony Pro user looking for new notation app

I've just recently started playing with iWriteMusic app for iPad. It's pretty limited, but for my admittedly limited needs, it's damn near perfect. Once he gets XML export implemented, I'm going to be an extremely happy camper. All I want is an app where I can enter the notes, ties, and slurs while ...

Re: Former Symphony Pro user looking for new notation app

I'm not trashing anybody. It's the Catch-22: you can't get the app if there aren't enough users, and you can't get the users if you don't have the apps.

Re: Former Symphony Pro user looking for new notation app

Twenty years ago, I was a Mac user. There were tons of apps for Windows computers, but when we asked about developing for the Mac, we were told, "just not enough users to make it economically feasible." The worm turns. When there are enough Android users to make it so, it will happen. Unti...

Re: Former Symphony Pro user looking for new notation app

Bill, My stylus is a Kensington, and it's comfortably shaped like a nice pen. The tip is about 1/4 inch, maybe less. In Symphony pro, the staff was bigger, yes. But, if it wasn't big enough, it could be enlarged further with the standard spread gesture. Notion doesn't do that, though. It should. I c...

Re: Note input using a stylus ?

AFAICT, text can only go above the staff. I haven't been able to move it. But that may just be me!

Re: Former Symphony Pro user looking for new notation app

No Bill, that's not the reason in my case. It's this: When I was taking piano lessons, 5 decades ago, I dropped as soon as it got to two or more accidentals. I just couldn't wrap my head and fingers around it. When I have a Finale score with five or six accidentals, it doesn't matter: I enter an A f...

Re: Former Symphony Pro user looking for new notation app

That's interesting to know, about SymphonyPro. I guess I'll stop waiting for it to come back, and start pestering the Notion people about note-on-staff entry, which was why I went to SP in the first place.

Re: Note input using a stylus ?

So necessary!! the way you input notes on the staff on the desktop version would be great on the ipad! right now I just would want my money back What? You enter notes just like on the desktop version, and can even attach a MIDI keyboard for note entry. I don't understand your issue! (I don't work f...

Overfilling measure

I'm a long-time Finale user, but new to Notion on the iPad. I have a 4/4 measure. If I insert 3 quarter notes, and a half note, they all go in one measure. I would expect that the half would have been broken down, with a quarter in the first measure, tied to a quarter in the next measure. Is this a ...
