Third party libraries like VSL use all kinds of CC data, so yes, use these to help with the realism.
The randomization settings tweak note start times, end times, and attack.

Re: D# Minor missing?
One shows the pitch in concert C but transposed at the octave for certain instruments (piccolo, double bass, etc) the other shows the exact sounding pitch.

Re: How to make a realistic orchestra?
Notion sounds don't use MIDI CC to my knowledge, so I doubt that CC 11 would help. Anyway, here are a few tricks that I've found to make a virtual orchestra sound more realistic: First, I would experiment with using Notion's randomization settings (select notes, right click, tools, randomize events)...

Re: EWQL Dynamics
Isn't that the point of using the EWQL presets as provided in Notion4? Shouldn't they work already? I looked at the sample list that loads with the presets. It seems like 10-15 samples load for each instrument already. I'm not quite sure what I'm looking for concerning the "crossfade" sam...

Re: EWQL Dynamics
Have you looked to see if the crossfade ewql patches are loaded? If they aren't, simply replace the static sample in Play with a crossfading one.

Re: Problems getting trills/shakes right
A Notion API would be cool, but I think that would be a long, long way off.
Again, the current trill functions as a proof of concept for both measured and unmeasured tremolos (on one note and multiple notes). I think this is something that should be available in Notion.

Re: Problems getting trills/shakes right
I have submitted a feature request to have some code added that would generate shakes, but if they do not sound good, then we will probably not add it to the program. I admire Notion's focus on production and features that sound right, but I think users should have the option to have Notion play me...

Re: Hairpin no gradual increase in volume
@ thorrild : I would just like Notion to function as much like a real world score as possible, that's all. You should be able to write a hairpin anywhere without necessarily specifying a dynamic marking to make it work. Sure, but computers run on instructions. Would you rather control how loudly or...
