Re: Dukas "L'apprenti Sorcier"

Do you use a reference recording(s) when working on Notion projects? No, at least not directly. But I've listened to recordings of this particular piece more times than I care to admit... Other scores, like the Saint-Saëns "Africa", which is also on SoundCloud somewhere, I had never heard...

Re: Dukas "L'apprenti Sorcier"

Claudio, 1. Create some string section music with a gentle, slow rhythm. 2. Select the first note and right-click: Select Notes > Articulations 3. From the resulting drop menu, select the bottom item, Soft Start. 4. A "backwards accent" symbol is placed on the note. Play the passage. The s...

Re: Dukas "L'apprenti Sorcier"

Michael & Claudio, Thanks for your kind words. :D I used Virtual Sound Stage (from Parallax Audio) to position the instruments in the stereo image, but to my ears, that's a quite subtle adjustment... Sometimes I think it helps the 3D of the sound, at other times I can't hear it. Other than that,...

Re: Key Signature question

Msplaya10, It depends on the style of music. But in musical styles where this question arises, it tends to depend not only on key signature and what comes before the Db/C# chord, but also on what comes after it, and on its rhythic importance. If the music is geared toward children or amateurs, it is...

Re: Staffs do not fit on a page

Hi Michael,

I think the problem is that Notion isn't always recalculating the number of pages in a score when it should. Fortunately, the solution is easy: Switch to Continuous View, then switch back to the Page View you came from, and all is well.

Best,
Thorrild

Re: Dukas "L'apprenti Sorcier"

Yves,

Merci beaucoup! I really enjoyed working on it. It's amazing how Notion really shines when the orchestration is excellent to begin with.

Just for the record:
Every sound is from Notion or its expansion library, except:

Timpani (GPO)
Gran Cassa [orchestral bass drum] (GPO)

Best,
Thorrild

Re: accel and rit not working constantly

Frieda, Follow the syntax that is given to you when you first double-click on a ritardando or accelerando : It is phrased in bpm (beats per minute), not as a metronome mark. Your example, which starts at quarter=90, should have an accel . mark with the syntax "accel to 200 bpm." If the &qu...
