Re: Is Notion 4 compatible with ReWire 2 ?
Thanks again for your help! I also had tested the transmission of information to an external stand-alone synth via MIDI OUT and I can confirm that it works EXCEPT for everything that is instrument-dependent, like key switches (which are just regular out-of-range notes). The problem is that choosing ...

Re: VST-Spy : a free utility to reveal VST plugin IDs
Another for Windows (works in Win 7 64): http://vb-audio.pagesperso-orange.fr/us/resources/vst_scanner/vst_scanner.htm Also free! Note that the "VST Uniq ID" value shown by VST-Scanner is in hexadecimal and 4-character equivalent while the one in the Notion rules examples document is in de...

Re: Is Notion 4 compatible with ReWire 2 ?
Thanks for your reply. My reason to try to do it this way is to keep Notion alive as in audio ReWire but still be able to edit CC curves in my DAW without losing Notion's ability to send the correct key switches to the VSTi's. The ReWire audio-only does not allow that but I've used it in the past fo...

VST-Spy : a free utility to reveal VST plugin IDs
I don't know if this can be useful when writing custom rules... I've found this small free utility that reveals everything about all your VST plugins including the 4-byte unique code (the plug-in ID) that uniquely defines them. The program is called VST-Spy and can be downloaded freely from: http://...

Is Notion 4 compatible with ReWire 2 ?
Is it possible to use Notion as a ReWire 2 slave in my DAW (SONAR set up as the ReWire 2 master) and "see" MIDI channels sending info from Notion to SONAR ? As described here http://www.propellerheads.se/products/reason/index.cfm?article=rewire&fuseaction=get_article ReWire 2 is capabl...

Re: Shift-Y: what will it do?
I use loopBe to run all my instruments in VEpro with rules assigned to midi channels and it works great. I've tried doing similar but sending the midi via loopBe to a sequencer and all my rules still worked exactly same. I'm still interested in doing exactly this last thing: sending all the key swi...

Re: How to make a realistic orchestra?
I'd use the sequencer staff more if I could draw in cc data with the mouse. Having to record it in is really cumbersome, and has no advantage in giving more life to the music, as playing in the notes would. Bill Absolutely agree. Being able to draw cc data directly in Notion would render my sequenc...

Re: Shift-Y: what will it do?
...should work just fine. When you assign a rule (or several rules) to a line in the score, it will apply to whatever that line is, be it a VSTi or an external midi out. All the rules instructions that can be executed are midi functions (note on/off, CC values, prog/channel changes, etc) so it real...

Re: Shift-Y: what will it do?
Thank you for the very detailed reply. One aspect still eludes me though: with Shift-Y will I be able to fool Notion so that it will use rules for, say, VSL SE and controlling this VST which will actually be loaded in my sequencer (and NOT in Notion), through one of Notion's MIDI OUT ports using Loo...

Re: Version 4.0.324 crashes sometimes
Thanks a lot for the heads-up about v 317. Just caught it in time... Strange that they reverted from 324...
I will try it and report here. BTW Brian from tech support suggests to run both Notion and SONAR in admin mode when doing ReWire.
